Week 3 EOC: Making Money for Good

After finding many companies that give back to charities, I found one that I felt stuck out from the rest. FEED is the name of the company and for every sell they make from bags, accessories, and even apparel, a part of the money goes to feeding hungry children around the world. They have partnered with the UN World Food Programme and The United Nations Children’s Fund, along with DonorsChoose.org, Room to Read, Millennium Villages, Doc 2 Dock, and Edesia. Lauren Bush designed a bag back in 2006 to benefit the United Nations World Food Programme’s School Feeding program and that’s what got FEED started. In 2007 production of these bags started and FEED Projects LLC was founded by Lauren Bush and Ellen Gustafson. For each bag sold a child in school would be fed for a year. In 2008 the FEED Foundation started to support programs and organizations that are working to fight hunger across the world. Since opening in 2007 FEED has been successful in giving 60 million school meals to children around the world, 46,000 children with nutrition supplements, and 13,000 children in American received healthier school meals. They were also able to with feeding people in Haiti after their major earthquake and Japan after their major earthquake. This couldn’t have been done without the help from their retail partners including GAP, Barnes & Noble, Amazon.com, American Eagle Outfitters, Whole Foods, and many more. Hunger is the number one on the world’s top ten health risks list, meaning one in seven people go to bed hungry every night in this world. I think what FEED is doing is beyond amazing and with more companies helping feed the hungry like them, it moves the world one step closer to being rid of malnutrition and the hungry.
